Why fly into Sofia and drive to Sozopol with a pet
Burgas Airport is much closer to Sozopol, but outside the summer season there are far fewer flights to Burgas than to Sofia, and the airline that accepts your pet may simply not fly there. Plenty of people therefore land in Sofia and do the rest by road. There is no direct coach that takes animals in the cabin, and the train would mean changing in Burgas with a crate and suitcases. A private transfer is the simple answer: we collect you in the arrivals hall, your dog travels next to you, and you get out at your door in Sozopol.
Who books this trip
Many of our passengers on this route are foreigners who own an apartment or a house in Sozopol or Chernomorets and spend months there with their dog or cat. Others rent a place for the summer, or come in May, June, September or October, when the beaches are quiet, the heat is gone and long walks along the coast are a pleasure for any dog.
The road and the breaks
Most of the drive is on the Trakia motorway, past Plovdiv and Stara Zagora towards Burgas; then the car bypasses the city and runs south along the coast to Chernomorets and Sozopol. We usually plan two stops:
- Around Plovdiv, after about an hour and a half – a walk on the lead and water.
- After Stara Zagora or before Burgas – the last longer break, as there are fewer good parking spots after the motorway.
Cats stay in the closed carrier, even at the stop. Give a light meal a few hours before you leave rather than just before, and never leave the animal alone in the car, even for a minute in the shade. In summer an early start helps – we run 24/7 and are happy to leave at dawn.
In Sozopol with a dog
Check that your hotel or rental accepts pets before you book – not all do, especially in the old town. Rules for dogs on the beaches are set by the municipality and the beach operators and vary from beach to beach, so ask your host or check on site. Crate, carrier and which vehicle to book
Your pet travels in your own crate or carrier (Terms and Conditions, item 50.4). It should be big enough for the animal to stand, turn and lie down. Tell us its rough size, how big the dog is and how much luggage you have:
- Sedan – up to 4 passengers, a cat or small dog in a soft carrier, normal luggage.
- Minivan – up to 6 passengers; a large dog in a rigid crate, or a family with lots of suitcases.
- Van – up to 8 passengers; several animals, two families, or luggage for a long stay.

We carry pets only together with their owner or a person looking after them. The crate or carrier is yours. When you book, tell us what animal you travel with and how big it is – the operator confirms the vehicle and the final price. No prepayment: you pay the driver after the ride.

What if my flight into Sofia is delayed?
Give us your flight number when you book. We track the flight and wait free of charge, with no time limit, if it lands late. The driver can meet you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and speaks English.
Can we stop on the way for the dog?
Yes. We usually plan two breaks on the Trakia motorway, and if your dog needs more, just say so when you book and the driver will stop when needed.
Can you take us back from Sozopol to Sofia Airport?
