Why take a taxi to the airport when you have a dog
Flight day is stressful enough: document checks, luggage, an early alarm. When you travel with an animal, you also have the crate, the lead, the bowls and the worry about how your dog or cat will cope with the journey. That is why it matters that at least the transfer goes smoothly.
- Exactly at the time you need. We work around the clock – for 6 am flights and for late evening ones. We will work out together when you should leave Plovdiv.
- Straight to the terminal. No changing buses in Sofia and no walking across the city with a crate.
- The crate travels with you. An airline crate is often bigger than an everyday one – in a minivan or a van it fits easily alongside the suitcases.
- Your pet calms down before the flight. A quiet car with no strangers means less stress even before you reach the airport.
How early to leave Plovdiv
Airlines usually ask passengers travelling with animals to arrive at the check-in desk earlier than everyone else, because the check takes longer. Every airline has its own requirements, so check them with your carrier in advance. To plan your departure time, add up three things:
- how early you need to be at the desk according to your airline;
- around 1 h 45 min of driving from Plovdiv to the airport;
- a small margin for a break for the dog and for traffic on the Sofia ring road.
Tell the dispatcher your flight time and which terminal you are flying from – we will suggest a convenient pick-up time.
Which vehicle to book
With around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, 100 vans and 20 S- and E-Class cars, we can send a vehicle that suits your luggage and your crate:
- Sedan – for a cat or a small dog in a soft carrier that will travel with you in the aircraft cabin.
- Minivan – for a hard travel crate for a medium or large dog, plus suitcases.
- Van – for a family with several suitcases, pushchairs and a large crate, or when several animals are travelling.
Child seats are free of charge. You can see the price for each vehicle in the calculator, and the dispatcher confirms the final price. You pay after the ride.
Getting your dog ready for flight day
- A long walk in the morning. The more tired your dog is, the calmer it will be in the car and later on the plane.
- Feed earlier. Give a light meal a few hours before you leave. Water is important, but don’t give large amounts right before the flight.
- Make the crate familiar. If the airline crate is new, leave it at home for a few days beforehand so your pet gets used to it.
- Documents in your hand luggage. Keep your pet’s documents close at hand, not in the suitcase in the boot.
- A last walk before the airport. If there is time, ask the driver to stop shortly before the airport so your dog can relieve itself.
Flying with a cat
Cats usually fly in the cabin, in a soft carrier under the seat. For the transfer from Plovdiv it is best to use the same carrier the cat will fly in – that way it is already used to it in the car. Don’t open the carrier on the way or at the airport unless the security check requires it. If your cat is nervous, cover the carrier with a light blanket – darkness often calms them down.
A large dog, a family and lots of luggage
The hardest trips to organise are those where the whole family flies together with a large dog. Then the car has to take the hard crate, two or three large suitcases, hand luggage and sometimes a pushchair as well. A trip like that should not be left to the last minute and the first available car. Tell us in advance how many of you there are, how many suitcases you are bringing and the size of the crate – we will send a minivan or a van with enough room, so your dog is not squeezed in between the luggage. If you are travelling with small children, we also prepare child seats, free of charge.
Our rules for carrying animals
We carry pets only together with their owner or a person who looks after them – we cannot take an animal to the airport on its own. The animal travels in your own crate or carrier, which the customer provides (General Terms and Conditions, point 50.4). Please check all the requirements of your airline and of the country you are flying to in advance with the relevant authorities and your carrier.
