The road from Sofia Airport to Plovdiv
From the airport the driver joins the Sofia ring road and then the Trakia motorway heading south-east. The motorway runs through the Thracian plain between the Balkan range to the north and the Rhodope and Rila mountains to the south. There are petrol stations with cafés along the way, so a short stop is easy if you need one.
Plovdiv is built on several hills. The Old Town, with its Roman theatre, cobbled streets and colourful 19th-century houses, is a pedestrian area in places, so give us the exact address of your hotel or apartment and the driver will get as close as the streets allow. The Kapana creative district and the main pedestrian street are only a short walk from most central hotels.
Plovdiv is also a good base for trips to the Rhodope mountains and the ski resort of Pamporovo, the Bachkovo Monastery and the wine region around Asenovgrad. If you plan to continue to the mountains or to the Black Sea coast later in your trip, we can arrange that transfer too.
