The road from Sofia Airport to Sunny Beach
From Sofia Airport the route joins the Trakia motorway, which crosses Bulgaria from west to east. You drive past Plovdiv and Stara Zagora, across the wide Thracian Plain with the Balkan Mountains to the north, and reach the coast at Burgas. From there it is a short drive north along the sea, past Pomorie and Nessebar, to Sunny Beach.
The distance is about 415 km and the drive takes around four hours and fifteen minutes without long stops. Most of the route is motorway. On the way there are petrol stations and roadside restaurants, so a coffee or lunch break is easy to arrange – just tell the driver when you would like to stop.
Why fly to Sofia and drive to the coast?
There are more flights to Sofia than to Burgas, especially outside the summer season, and sometimes they are cheaper or fit your dates better. Some travellers also combine a few days in Sofia with a week at the sea. With a private transfer the trip across the country becomes part of the holiday rather than a problem: you do not need to transfer to a bus station with your suitcases, and children can sleep in the car.
If you are staying in Nessebar, Sveti Vlas or Ravda instead of Sunny Beach, it makes very little difference to the route – give us your address and we will take you there. The same applies on the way back: we can collect you from your hotel and drive you to Sofia Airport in time for your flight.

On a long journey, space matters. For a family of four with suitcases, a minivan is much more comfortable than a sedan. For groups, one van is often better value than two cars.
