What is the road from Plovdiv to Pamporovo like?

After Plovdiv we pass through Asenovgrad and enter the Rhodope Mountains. The road follows the river past Bachkovo Monastery and Narechenski Bani, then climbs towards Chepelare and Pamporovo. Almost the whole way after Asenovgrad is in the mountains – with many bends, some narrow stretches and beautiful views.

If anyone in your group tends to feel car-sick, let us know: the driver will take it more gently and stop whenever needed. Good places for a break are Bachkovo, Narechenski Bani and Chepelare.

When is the best time to travel?

  • Ski season – usually from mid-December to the end of March. Saturday mornings are the busiest time on the road to the resort.
  • In snow – the last kilometres to Pamporovo may be slower. Add half an hour.
  • First day on the slopes – leave Plovdiv around 7 am and you will be in the resort before the lifts open.
  • Summer – Pamporovo and the area around it are great for walking, cycling and a cool break from the heat.

Where can you pick me up?

We pick you up from any address in Plovdiv, from the Central Railway Station, the bus stations or Plovdiv Airport near Krumovo – the airport lies south of the city, almost on the way to Asenovgrad. If you are landing at Sofia Airport instead, book a direct Sofia Airport to Pamporovo transfer so you do not have to change cars in Plovdiv.

  • The slopes – well suited to beginners and families, with ski schools and equipment rental.
  • Chepelare – about 10 km away, with its own ski runs.
  • Smolyan and Shiroka Laka – close enough for a day trip, with the Smolyan Lakes and traditional Rhodope architecture.
  • Bachkovo Monastery – on the road from Plovdiv, a nice reason to stop on the way back.

Is Pamporovo good for a ski holiday with children?

Pamporovo is one of the resorts that families with small children choose most often – the slopes are wide, and the ski schools take even very young skiers. The drive from Plovdiv is under two hours, which matters when there are children in the car. Child seats are free of charge, and we stop on the way whenever needed. If you are bringing a children’s sledge, a pushchair and several pairs of skis, book a minivan or a van.

Which vehicle should I book for my group and ski gear?

We have around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, 100 vans and 20 S- and E-Class cars, so we can almost always find a vehicle, even at the last minute. Just tell us how many of you there are and what luggage you have:

  • up to four people with ordinary suitcases travel comfortably in a sedan;
  • for a family with a pushchair, lots of suitcases or sports equipment, a minivan is the better choice – and four people with skis should always book a minivan;
  • for a group of friends, book a van – it works out cheaper than two separate cars;
  • for a business meeting or an official guest, we have S- and E-Class cars.

Travelling with a baby or a small child? Child seats come at no extra charge – we only need to know the child’s age and approximate weight. Skis and snowboards for two people fit in a sedan.

Can I bring my dog or cat to Pamporovo?

Yes. The route is short but has many bends. Cats travel in a closed carrier and dogs in a crate. See also Pamporovo transfer with a dog and ski holiday in Bulgaria with a dog.

  • We carry dogs and cats only together with their owner or the person looking after them.
  • The animal travels in your own crate or carrier.
  • Tell us when you book what kind of animal is travelling and how big it is – for a large dog in a crate we send a minivan or a van.
