What is the road from Burgas to Sofia like?
The car leaves Burgas to the west and almost immediately joins the Trakia motorway. The road passes Karnobat, Yambol, Nova Zagora, Stara Zagora and Plovdiv, and enters Sofia from the east – via Tsarigradsko Shose or the ring road, depending on where you are going. The motorway has two lanes in each direction and petrol stations at regular intervals, so breaks are easy.

The slowest parts are usually the entrance to Sofia at rush hour and sections with roadworks on the motorway. The driver follows the traffic and, if needed, chooses another way into the city.
When is the best time to leave?
In summer, especially on Sunday afternoon and evening, the motorway towards Sofia is busy with people coming back from the seaside. If you can, leave early in the morning or after 20:00. Weekdays outside the season are the quietest.
If you are travelling to catch a flight from Sofia Airport, tell us your departure time. We recommend being at the airport at least 2 hours before a flight within Europe and about 3 hours before a flight outside the Schengen area. We will work out when to leave Burgas with a margin for traffic at the entrance to Sofia.

Why a private transfer instead of a train, bus or plane?
A transfer takes you from door to door. With the bus or the train you first have to get to the station in Burgas, then wait, then travel with your luggage, and in Sofia take another taxi to your address. A domestic flight is fast in the air, but with the trip to the airport, check-in and the ride into the city the whole journey often takes about as long as the drive.
