From Plovdiv to Borovets it is about 125 km, and the drive takes about 2 hours. There is no direct bus between the two – by public transport you have to change in Sofia or Samokov, and with skis, boots and suitcases that soon becomes a hassle. With YesTrans the car picks you up at your address in Plovdiv and drops you in front of your hotel in Borovets, with no changes and no waiting at a bus station.

What is the road from Plovdiv to Borovets like?

The first part is on the Trakia motorway towards Sofia – a fast, flat stretch past Pazardzhik. Usually the car leaves the motorway around Kostenets and Dolna Banya and from there climbs the mountain road to Borovets. The last 20–25 km have sharp bends and a steady climb, so they take longer than the distance suggests.

The other option is to stay on the motorway to the Ihtiman area and then go via Samokov. The driver picks the route according to traffic, roadworks and the state of the mountain section on the day.

  • Distance: about 125 km
  • Time: about 2 hours in normal traffic
  • Motorway: most of the way
  • Mountain section: the last part before the resort

When is the best time to leave?

In the ski season, from December to March, Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days: hotel guests change over and many people from Sofia and Plovdiv drive up for the weekend. If you can, leave early in the morning – you will arrive in time for the first lift, or at least for lunch, and the mountain road is quieter.

When it snows, the climb can take longer. Do not plan the trip down to the last minute if a prepaid ski school or a fixed booking is waiting for you. The way back on Sunday afternoon is also busy – leaving before lunch is usually quicker.

Outside the season Borovets is a quiet resort with hotels for hiking, sports camps and rest. The road is clear then, and two hours is usually more than enough.

Where in Plovdiv can you pick me up?

We pick you up from any address in Plovdiv – a flat, hotel, office, the Central Railway Station or the Yug and Sever bus stations. If you arrive by plane at Plovdiv Airport, we can meet you there too. If you are leaving from a town or village near Plovdiv – Asenovgrad, Stamboliyski, Rakovski, Markovo – just give us the address when you book.

If you are coming from abroad and land in Plovdiv first, we can collect you straight from the airport and carry on to Borovets without going into the city. And if you are flying home from Sofia, the return transfer can go directly from Borovets to Sofia Airport – the road is shorter and there is no need to go back via Plovdiv. Tell us your plans for the whole trip and we will suggest the most convenient option.

What about ski equipment, luggage and children?

Skis, snowboards and ski boots take up more room than you would think. So when you book, tell us how many of you there are and what you are bringing. We choose the vehicle accordingly:

  • Sedan – for 1–4 people with suitcases and not much ski gear.
  • Minivan – for a family or a small group with skis and snowboards.
  • Van – for a ski group, a club or several families together.
  • S/E-Class – if you want a more prestigious car for a business trip.

Child seats and baby seats come at no extra charge – tell us the age and approximate weight of your children and we will fit them in advance. On the mountain section younger children sometimes feel unwell because of the bends – if needed, we stop for a few minutes.

Can I bring my dog or cat to Borovets?

Many people head to the mountains with their dog. We carry pets only together with their owner. Your dog travels in your own crate or carrier. When you book, tell us what animal is travelling and how big it is, so we send a car where both the crate and the skis fit. You can read more about travelling with animals on our page about transfers with a dog or cat, and about the winter resorts in our guide to a ski holiday with a dog.

What is there to do in Borovets?

Borovets is the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria, set below Musala – the highest peak on the Balkan Peninsula. The lifts start right in the centre of the resort, and the hotels are close to one another. In winter it is all about skiing and snowboarding; in summer people come for hikes to Musala, Sitnyakovo and Chamkoria, for cycling and for a rest in the forest.

If during your stay you want to go to Samokov, the Rila Monastery or Sofia Airport, we can take you there as well. The return transfer from Borovets to Plovdiv is arranged the same way – tell us the day and time and the car will come to your hotel.
