From Sofia to Velingrad it is about 140 km, and the drive takes around 2 hours 15 minutes. Velingrad is Bulgaria’s best-known spa town, and this is one of our most frequent routes – for a spa weekend, a course of mineral-water treatment or a family break in the mountains. We pick you up from your address in Sofia or straight from Sofia Airport and drop you off at the entrance of your hotel.

Which road does the transfer take from Sofia to Velingrad?

The quickest way is along the Trakia motorway towards Pazardzhik and from there through the Chepino Gorge up to Velingrad. The motorway is fast, while the last 30 km or so in the gorge follow the Chepinska River with many bends, so the speed there is lower – and the views are worth it.

  • Leaving Sofia. On weekdays between 5 and 7 pm, traffic out of the city is slow. If you set off before 3 pm or after 7 pm, you save time.
  • A break. There are petrol stations with coffee and toilets along the motorway – just tell the driver and we will stop.
  • Winter. In the gorge there can be ice early in the morning and in the evening. Allow a little extra time.

Can you pick me up at Sofia Airport and drive me to Velingrad?

Yes. If you land at Sofia Airport, the driver waits for you at the terminal exit. If your flight is late, we wait for as long as it takes – you do not pay for waiting. From the airport we head straight for the motorway, without crossing the city centre. Just give us your flight number when you book. There is also a separate page for this route: Sofia Airport to Velingrad transfer.

Why take a private transfer rather than the bus?

Buses from Sofia to Velingrad run at fixed times, and from the bus station in Velingrad you still need a taxi to your hotel. With a transfer you leave when it suits you, your suitcases stay in the car from door to door, and child seats come at no extra charge. For a group of 4–8 people, a minivan or van works out well – the price is for the vehicle, not per person.

What is there to see and do in Velingrad?

Velingrad grew out of three old villages – Ladzhene, Kamenitsa and Chepino – and is famous for its mineral springs: almost every spa hotel has pools filled with mineral water. In the town you will find the Kleptuza karst spring with its lake and park. Nearby are the Yundola plateau, the Batak Dam and the Tsigov Chark resort, and the narrow-gauge railway from Septemvri to Dobrinishte runs right through the town – a lovely trip in its own right.

We can also take you on to nearby places such as Rakitovo, Yundola or Batak, or bring you back by a different route – for example to Plovdiv or Bansko.

How does the return trip to Sofia work?

You can book the return transfer together with the outward one. The driver comes to your hotel reception at the agreed time. If you are flying out, tell us your departure time and we will suggest a pick-up time with a buffer for Sofia traffic.

When should I book?

For a weekday, booking a day or two ahead is enough. For Fridays, public holidays and the weeks around Christmas and New Year – when Velingrad’s hotels are full and many people travel from Sofia – book earlier, especially if you need a minivan or a van for a larger group. If you decide at the last minute, still give us a call: we work 24/7 and can often find a free vehicle for the same day.

Which vehicle is right for my group and luggage?

On the Sofia – Velingrad route we drive sedans, minivans and vans. The calculator above shows the price for each of the three, so you can choose by the number of passengers and the amount of luggage. We have around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, 100 vans and 20 S- and E-Class cars, so we can also send several vehicles at once – for a family with lots of suitcases, a company group or a wedding. If you are not sure your luggage will fit, tell us how many suitcases, bags or bulky items you have and the dispatcher will suggest the right vehicle.

Can I travel with children or with a pet?

  • Child seats at no extra charge. When you book, tell us your child’s age and approximate weight – we will fit a baby seat, a child seat or a booster.
  • Breaks. If your child needs a stop, tell the driver. Only your party is in the car, and we stop whenever needed.
  • Dog or cat. We carry pets only together with their owner. The crate or carrier is your own. Tell us when you book what kind of animal is travelling and how big it is, so we can send a car with enough room.

Can I change the time, add stops or bring bulky luggage?

  • Changing the time. If your plans change, call us or message us on Viber or WhatsApp – the sooner you do, the easier it is to move the time or date.
  • Stops on the way. If you want to pick up another person or stop at a pharmacy or a shop, tell us when you book so it is included in the route.
  • Bulky luggage. Skis, bikes, a pushchair, a wheelchair or a musical instrument – let us know in advance so we send a vehicle with enough space.
  • A break. If you want to stop for a coffee, the toilet or a cigarette, just tell the driver.
