From Sofia to Pamporovo it is about 230 km, and the drive takes about 3 hours 30 minutes. Direct buses are rare, and with a change in Plovdiv or Smolyan the journey quickly turns into a whole day – especially with skis, boots and suitcases. With YesTrans you travel in a car just for you, from your address in Sofia or from Sofia Airport to the door of your hotel in Pamporovo. We do not pick up other passengers on the way.

What is the road from Sofia to Pamporovo like?

The first part is on the Trakia motorway – about 130 km to Plovdiv. From there the car turns south towards Asenovgrad and enters the Rhodopes on the road past Bachkovo Monastery, Narechenski Bani and Chepelare. This part is a mountain road with many bends along the Chepelarska river valley, and in winter it can be covered with snow. The last kilometres after Chepelare climb up to the resort itself.

  • Distance: about 230 km
  • Time: about 3 hours 30 minutes in normal traffic
  • Motorway: Sofia – Plovdiv
  • Mountain section: Asenovgrad – Pamporovo, about 80 km

Almost half of the travel time is spent on the mountain section, because the road there is slow. In snow or ice the trip can take longer, and the driver adjusts the speed to the conditions.

Where in Sofia can you pick me up?

We pick you up from any address in Sofia – a flat, a hotel, an office, the Central Railway Station or a bus station. If you are leaving on a weekday, try to avoid 7:30–10:00 and 17:00–19:30, when getting out of the city is slowest. If you live in the southern districts, the way to the motorway is shorter. We can also collect you from a town near Sofia, such as Pernik, Bozhurishte, Bankya or Samokov – just give us the address when you book.

If you want, we can stop in Plovdiv for a coffee or lunch, or at Bachkovo Monastery for a short visit. Tell us when you book, so we can plan a longer stop into the trip.

Can you meet us at Sofia Airport instead?

Yes. Many guests of Pamporovo land in Sofia. The driver waits for you at the exit of the arrivals hall in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. We follow your flight – if it is late, the waiting is unlimited and free. Once you have your luggage and skis, we leave straight away without going into the city centre. There is a separate page about the Sofia Airport to Pamporovo transfer with more details on meeting you at the terminal.

If your flight lands in the evening, it is often better to set off at once rather than spend a night in Sofia – the road is empty and you reach the resort at night. We work around the clock.

When is the best time to travel?

In the ski season, from December to March, Saturdays are changeover days for hotel guests, and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons are busy with people driving up for the weekend. Leave early in the morning if you want to arrive for lunch and still have time to rent skis and buy a lift pass.

In summer Pamporovo is a resort for walking, cycling and rest in the forest. The road is clear then, but there are more tour buses on the mountain section, so allow some extra time.

Which vehicle do we need for skis, luggage and children?

Tell us how many of you there are and how many sets of skis or snowboards you are bringing. We choose the car accordingly:

  • Sedan – for 1–4 people with suitcases and little ski gear.
  • Minivan – for a family or a group of four with skis and snowboards.
  • Van – for a ski group, a club or several families together.
  • S/E-Class – if you want a more prestigious car for a business trip.

Child seats and baby seats are free – tell us the age of the children and we fit them in advance. On the bends of the mountain section some children feel unwell; if needed, the driver stops for a few minutes.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes. We carry pets only together with their owner, and the animal travels in your own crate or carrier. Tell us the size of the dog when you book, so we send a car with room for both the crate and the skis. On the way we stop for a short walk or a rest when needed. More about this on our pages about transfers with a dog or cat, the Pamporovo transfer with a dog and, in Bulgarian, the pet travel hub.

What is there to do in Pamporovo?

Pamporovo is a ski resort in the heart of the Rhodopes, below Snezhanka peak and its TV tower. The slopes are wide and suitable for beginners and families, and there are ski schools and rental shops next to the lifts. Nearby are Chepelare, with its own slopes, and the villages of Shiroka Laka and Momchilovtsi. In summer people come for the forest trails, the Smolyan lakes and the Wonderful Bridges.

During your stay we can take you to Smolyan, Plovdiv or Chepelare. The return transfer from Pamporovo to Sofia or to Sofia Airport is arranged the same way – tell us the day and the time and the car will come to your hotel.

How do I book the transfer?

  1. Check the price in the calculator at the top of the page.
  2. Call +359 897 227 771, write to us on Viber or WhatsApp, or use the online booking form.
  3. Give us your address in Sofia or your flight number, your hotel in Pamporovo, the time, the number of passengers, the skis and the luggage.
  4. The dispatcher confirms the vehicle and the final price.
  5. You pay after the ride – no prepayment.

We have around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, 100 vans and 20 S/E-Class cars, so even on the busiest ski weekends we can usually find a car.
