From Plovdiv to Bansko it is about 150 km, and the drive takes about 2 hours 30 minutes. The road goes through Pazardzhik, Velingrad and the Yundola pass, so it is shorter than the detour via Sofia, but it is a mountain road. With YesTrans you travel in a car just for you – from your address in Plovdiv or from Plovdiv Airport to your hotel or apartment in Bansko, with suitcases, skis and snowboards in the boot.

Can you pick us up at Plovdiv Airport?

Yes. Plovdiv Airport is near the village of Krumovo, south-east of the city. Give us your flight number when you book – the driver meets you at the exit of the arrivals hall, and if the plane is late, the waiting is unlimited and free. From the airport we go straight towards Pazardzhik and Velingrad, without going into the centre of Plovdiv. Because the pick-up point is outside the city, the dispatcher confirms the final price for an airport pick-up when you book.

If you are landing at Sofia Airport instead, it is shorter to book a direct Sofia Airport to Bansko transfer.

What is the road from Plovdiv to Bansko like?

We set off west on the Trakia motorway and leave it at Pazardzhik for Velingrad. After Velingrad the road climbs to Yundola – the highest point of the route, at about 1,400 m above sea level. From there, through Avramovi Kolibi and Yakoruda, it goes down into the Razlog valley and through Razlog to Bansko.

  • Distance: about 150 km
  • Time: about 2 hours 30 minutes in normal conditions
  • Motorway: Plovdiv – Pazardzhik
  • Mountain section: Velingrad – Yundola – Yakoruda – Razlog

The first third is on the motorway and on flat land. The rest is a mountain road with many bends, forests and a few villages. If someone in your group gets carsick, tell us – the driver will drive more gently and stop when needed. There are good places for a short break in Velingrad and at Yundola.

There is a second option – via Sofia and the Struma motorway. It is about 100 km longer but uses wider roads all the way. We use it rarely, usually when a section is closed or there is a heavy storm at Yundola.

When is the best time to leave?

Winter. In the ski season, usually from mid-December to April, the road over Yundola is cleared, but in snow the trip can take 30–40 minutes longer.

Saturdays. Most apartments and hotels in Bansko change guests on Saturday. The road is quieter in the morning; after lunch there are more cars heading to the resort.

The first ski day. If you want to be on the slopes early, leave Plovdiv around 5:30–6:00. We work 24/7, so an early start is not a problem.

Summer. The road is easy and beautiful, with no snow. Bansko is a good base for Pirin – Vihren, Banderitsa and the Popovi lakes.

Where in Plovdiv can you pick us up?

We pick you up from any address in Plovdiv and the villages around it, from a hotel in the centre, from the Central Railway Station or the Yug bus station, as well as from Plovdiv Airport. If your hotel in the Bansko area is actually in Razlog or Dobrinishte, just give us the exact address.

Which vehicle do we need for skis, luggage and children?

We have around 200 sedans, 50 minivans, 100 vans and 20 Mercedes S- and E-Class cars. We choose the car according to the number of people and the luggage, and the price in the calculator is for the whole car, not per person.

  • Sedan – for 1–4 people with a suitcase each and little ski gear.
  • Minivan – when there are more suitcases, a pram, skis or a golf bag.
  • Van – for a group, two families or a company trip, all travelling together.
  • S/E-Class – for business guests or when you want a more prestigious car.

Child seats and baby seats are free. Tell us how many children are travelling and how old they are, so we fit the right seat before we set off.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes. We carry pets only together with their owner, and the animal travels in your own crate or carrier. Tell us the size of the dog when you book. On the mountain road we stop for a short walk or rest when needed. Read more on our pages about transfers with a dog or cat, the Bansko ski transfer with a dog and, in Bulgarian, the pet travel hub.

What is there to do in Bansko?

Bansko is the largest ski resort in Bulgaria. The gondola lift starts at the lower end of the town and takes you up to the ski area, where most of the runs are. There are queues at the gondola in the morning, so many guests ask us to drop them directly at the lift and take the luggage to the hotel later – just tell us. In the old town you will find cobbled streets, traditional taverns, the Holy Trinity church and the house-museum of Neofit Rilski. In summer Bansko is the starting point for Vihren and the Banderitsa hut.
